The Institute of Actuaries of Australia - policy advocacy and brand profiling

Reaching business leaders

The Institute of Actuaries of Australia (the Institute) is the sole professional body for actuaries in Australia.

The Institute brings a unique perspective to a number of issues that are currently dominating.  In a bid to raise the profile of the actuarial profession’s contribution to public debate, the Institute appointed Honner Media in January 2009 to drive its media campaign.

A number of events planned for the first four months of the year presented an excellent opportunity to engage the media including the Institute's Super Policy Forum and Biennial Convention, as well as the local launch of the International Actuarial Association's (IAA) report into global financial risk management.

All three events were well attended by senior journalists across the mainstream and industry press, which converted to high profile coverage on the Institute’s target areas of comment. In particular, the country’s leading national affairs writers and business commentators covered each event and profiled the Institute’s spokespeople over several weeks of commentary.

Coverage included columns by Glenda Korporaal and Mike Steketee from The Australian, Damon Frith from BRW and three ABC TV Lateline Business segments, in addition to high profile coverage in the front news sections of The Australian and the AFR.
